November 3, 2011 Morning coffee

Here’s another beautiful November morning in Indianapolis. The photo is taken on the same spot as yesterday’s photo.

Morning coffee with Dave K — I like that slightly bitter taste of Starbucks — was a meandering river through a fertile plain.

*How computers dedicated to weather forecasting must deal with a world of chaos (the rains began one hour and fifteen minutes prior to expected arrival).

*The force of gravity in the universe (Dave lent me the copy of Hawking’s book).

*Whom to vote for in the mayoral election (we both are undecided, but agree that the governor and mayor showed us how not to perform due diligence in regards to the supposed opening of a litebox factory).

*House security systems (how much is too much?).

*The latest in knee surgeries .

*Early Chicago, when Dave’s neighborhood was a duck-filled swamp.

*The autistic woman who has designed more humane chutes at butchering plants (Incredibly, last evening I put myself to sleep designing a better way to load cattle on the farm so that they don’t panic).

*Leaf raking / leaf chopping / leaf composting.

*Occasions of loneliness (we shared personal stories).

*Interior decorating: minimalism and Victorianism, somber Mennonite colors and lively dancing colors.

*Our comparative (contrasting) upbringing: locale, ambience, family, religion, education.

Morning coffee with a friend on a meandering river on a rainy day is one of the highlights of retirement.
