Our block of neighbors is extraordinary. We’re called a party street. Yesterday Patty and Carri threw an olympics party for neighborhood kids and their parents. I edged myself in.
Fifty five people attended. Ten relays brought cheers. One ended up in the hospital (John tumbled over the wheelbarrow and its occupant).
Here is a sampling of photos that will give you a glimpse of the goodwill in this part of town.

Each family brought a poster.

Patty explains a relay.

Everyone, tots to seniors, had opportunities to run.

One of the relays required rope jumping.

The wheelbarrow race.

In this race we had to go under a table.

Opponents line up on two sides.

Five times around the bat and then off to the races.

Everybody was included.

Three watched through the slats of the porch swing.

Another wandered off to play with Molly.

The north side always won the tug-o-wars.

Warm friendship.

Cold friendship.

Up in the air.

Upside down.

One of many party queens.

Raiding the ice box.

Winners take all.

All on a summer evening on 300 North Bolton.

Dan,
I was so glad to see you yesterday at the Olympics. What a fun-filled event! Scott and I have talked many times about how fortunate we feel to have such a wonderful family in our Bolton (and surrounding) neighbors. In this day of fast-paced living, it is a blessing to be able to spend an afternoon as a family playing games and laughing the day away.
Thanks for the wonderful post,
Carrie
Thanks, Carrie. How many streets in America care for its kids as does ours? Thanks much for your planning of the event.
